Visibilizar el papel de las mujeres en las organizaciones ha sido un camino de retos que ha tenido un progreso lento, pero constante. A mediados del siglo XX, el rol de la mujer dejó de asociarse al hogar y sus quehaceres, mostrándose más activas y presentes en los procesos de las organizaciones e interesándose en el logro de una formación profesional que les permitiera acceder al mercado laboral desde un rol digno y respetado.
Desde entonces y gracias a los esfuerzos continuos, se han logrado grandes cambios en la historia de la humanidad, desde el derecho al voto y la formación profesional, hasta la igualdad de género en el lugar de trabajo. Las mujeres líderes están avanzando a desempeñar papeles importantes en los negocios, el Gobierno, la educación superior y distintos campos de trabajo.
“En este corto camino, las mujeres hemos demostrado ser muy eficientes en el ejercicio de nuestras profesiones y cuando se trata de liderar, somos capaces de comprender que los procesos son realizados por personas y nos centramos en esas personas con necesidades, motivaciones, vida personal y sueños, para lograr el cumplimiento de los objetivos, con la ganancia secundaria de motivar a nuestros colaboradores a un mayor desarrollo de sus potencialidades”, señala María Carolina Betancourt, asesora Senior de Human Talent Technologies – HTT.
En la actualidad, es posible encontrar gran cantidad de estudios que muestran que las mujeres líderes ayudan a aumentar la productividad, mejorar la colaboración, inspirar la dedicación organizacional y mejorar la equidad. De hecho, un análisis realizado en 1992 por los autores Eagly, AH, Makhijani, MG y Klonsky, señala que las mujeres líderes demuestran estilos de liderazgo más transformacionales, son capaces de personificar lo bueno de la organización e inspiran a las personas a seguir su misión.
De esta forma, la presencia de las mujeres tanto en niveles directivos, como en niveles asistenciales, puede cambiar las dinámicas y resultados de los procesos, dando ejemplo de perseverancia, disciplina y compromiso con un gran deseo de cumplir sus metas. “Tenemos el beneficio de ver el proceso como un todo y utilizamos nuestras cualidades femeninas de empatía, capacidad de escucha y flexibilidad para impulsar ese todo a un logro concreto”, agrega Betancourt.
Lo cierto es que, en cuanto más mujeres estén empoderadas para liderar, más beneficios se verán. “Conseguir un asiento en la mesa no es suficiente. Es hora de que las mujeres y los líderes diversos ocupen puestos de liderazgo si queremos avanzar juntos en el futuro”, afirmó la psicóloga clínica Jean Lau Chin, reconocida por su trabajo sobre la diversidad en el liderazgo, durante una charla TEDx de 2016.
